Lissa Wohltmann (Retired Navy Commander and Edmond Bike Committee Member) will be the lead for our May 15 Kickoff Ride as well as training rides from May 15-Nov 7.
Cycle 66 registrants can join training rides at OBS Group Rides and contact Lissa at 405-757-4338 or edmondhealth@gmail.com for more information.
Lissa has mapped out our Cycle 66 Kickoff Ride that will begin at Festival Market Place at 8am on May 15.
Let’s promote this kickoff bike ride as we promote the Registration Kickoff Party.
The following is the cycle 66 kickoff bike route that everyone can access.

Turn by turn by turn directions:
1. Head east to Blvd then head south and stay on this road for about 8 or 9 miles; it will turn into Martin Luther King Ave.
2. Turn left into Remington Park for our rest stop then turn left onto Remington Place/NE Grand Blvd.
3. Turn right at the Firefighters' Museum (NE Grand Blvd.)
4. Turn right on 36th Street.
5. Turn right on MLK Ave. and stay on this road until you are in Edmond.
At the 9 mile mark (Remington Park parking lot) would be a good place to stop for water and such. On the way back, if people need another quick regroup/stop, Millwood School is an excellent option because there is a big parking lot and it's right on top of a hill. Not sure if we need to publicize it because we don't know who will show up and what they can do.
This is a casual “no drop” bike ride of 22 mile loop that begins and ends at Festival Market Place and averages 12-16 mph. Approximate timing is from 8am-11am.
1. Wear a helmet (this is a must)
2. Wear bike gloves to protect your hands from road rash if you fall.
3. Bring a snack (like a Cliff Bar) for energy
4. Bring a water bottle filled with water or your favorite beverage.
5. Use hand signals if possible. However, if you feel a bit unsteady, then keep both hands on the handlebars and the rest of the group will signal for you.
6. If you need help or you are falling behind, please let someone know so the leader will adjust our speed. We will stay together.
7. Pay attention to the road and others around you--Oklahoma is famous for potholes and rough rides in places. If you see a pothole or something in the road, call out so people behind you will be alerted.
8. Earbuds music and music are discouraged during the ride due to distractions.
9. On these four lane roads, we need to take up one whole lane. There will be plenty of room for automobiles.
10. We will stop for water and brief rest at the halfway point.
