Bicycle Advisory Committee

BikeOklahoma can help your community start a Bicycle Advisory Committee ( BAC ) or Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee ( BPAC )

BikeOklahoma can help your community to start a BAC program.

The program is made up of two initiatives:

1) A packet with suggestions on how to create a local BPAC, BAC, or ad hoc committee,

The Pedestrian Bike Info Center  www.pedbikeinfo.org/ is a valuable resource to help get this project started. .  BikeOklahoma will tailor the start up materials for our state. .
Other resources may come from our own board members and partner BAC members in places across OK.
A Oklahoma Bike Summit session on using the "BAC Startup kit" may be provided

2) Volunteers familiar with starting such a committee who are willing to work with a municipality to start one.

The second part is to work with established BPACs, BACs, or ad hoc committees under the Government Affairs Committee -
There may be opportunities to offer membership to BikeOklahoma to new BAC members for one year to promote this program.
The benefits: a) It would get more active people involved in the organization.  b) It would help BikeOklahoma have a better pulse on what's going on in active cycling communities, allowing us to guide our statewide efforts a little better.

The Representation committee could work in conjunction with Education and Government committee to identify areas that could use a BAC, continued outreach to said committees to help connect them with as many different cyclists as possible, and also to report back to Government Affairs so we can guide legislative efforts to meet our members' needs.

Tasks for this program:

1. Create the "BAC in a Box" kit for interested groups and municipalities.

2. Reach out and compile a list of BACs in OK complete with members' names.  Offer one-year membership to those participants.

3. Create a means of communication to facilitate the needs of these BACs.  It is expected that the communities will understand that having the support of the state's cycling advocacy organization behind them is a good thing.
